brief update
Just a couple things to let y'all know I'm still alive and kickin'.
First of all...work is better. The worst of crunch time is over, so now it's mostly just spit & polish. Hurrah.
Secondly...I haven't been updating much because I've been incredibly tired the past month or so. In addition to to work, I also got sick right before Halloween and went to the doctor. I was told I probably had a virus that would work itself out of my system in a couple of days, so in the meantime, keep taking Sudafed and doing whatever made my throat stop hurting. Fast forward three weeks. My throat was still sore, my nose was sore, my sinuses were aching all the time, my eyes felt swollen and dry all day, and I couldn't get rid of the congestion draining into the back of my throat (the reason why my throat hurt in the first place). As it turns out, what was labeled "non strep pharyngitis" turned into a sinus infection. Joy. So, I've been exhausted because I've been running a low-grade fever for days on end while my body gave up trying to get rid of the bacteria that decided my sinuses were Club Med. I'm doing better now that I've got penicillin helping me out with the bad bacteria.
That's all for now. Keep on keepin' on.

what a week
It's amazing how time flies when you're...not having much fun. Not at work at least.
First, let's talk site stuff and pictures. I'm not having much luck talking myself into writing up my not-so-thrilling adventures for the Hijinks section. However, I did manage to download pictures from my camera this week. I added a new section to the navigation menu to your right, Photo Albums. If you're a Regular Gentle Reader, then you've seen the Vegas photos already. The Labor Day and Halloween photos are new though!
Other than work, there hasn't been much going on for me. That's ok...it seems there's enough going on in the rest of the world! This week alone, we've had a presidential election, a man who got bit trying to convert a lion to Christianity, a man who ran onto a jet naked when he wasn't allowed to purchase a ticket to Australia, vandals who glued the doors of lots of betting shops in Australia the night before a huge horse race...the world is definitely a funny place sometimes.
On the subject of the election...I'll be honest and admit I didn't vote. It's not because I don't care, or that I'm ignorant of what's going on, or that I'm lazy. It's more because I feel the best person to vote for is the one you most identify with on the important issues. This time around, that was no one. Honestly. I see good points and bad points about the two major candidates, and there was nothing about either one that pushed me off the fence. I even took a survey where I rated my feelings on the importance of 40 or so different issues, and the results showed an even split for Kerry & Bush. So, before you hate me for not voting, let me just point out that if I'd gone to the polls, I would have basically thrown away my vote on someone who didn't have a shot at winning.
A request for all you Kerry supporters...please don't be poor sports. I know y'all passionately wanted Bush to get de-throned, and he didn't, and I know how upsetting that is. I felt the same way when I voted against Clinton ages ago. However, if you really want people to be active and vote, it doesn't set a very good precedent to run around for weeks before an election, spouting off the rhetoric explaining all the reasons why it's someone's responsibility to vote and make their voices heard, if you're only going to lambast them afterwards for choosing a different candidate than you. It's almost like several people forgot to finish their urges to vote...we all hear "Let your voice be heard! It's your responsibility to go out and vote"...and then in parentheses after that..."but only if you're voting for Kerry, because if you vote for Bush you're a f'ing stupid moron." Yeah, nothing makes me want to vote more than that. (sarcasm)
So, be frustrated. But remember that you've been preaching to others to vote, and you shouldn't just write off 59 million people as being idiots because they disagreed with you. Your best friend or your mom or your grandmother may be one of those 59 million, and I know you don't really mean that about people. It's just the heat of the moment.
I suggest instead of channeling all that anger into hating anyone who voted non-Kerry...get active, and don't just wait for another 4 years to go by so you can vote again. Some suggestions I've heard others mention - join the Planned Parenthood Action Fund. Join the Sierra Club. Join up with the human rights movement for gay/lesbian/transgendered people. Come visit me in Virginia, and while you're here go march in a protest somewhere. Do something, other than lambast 59 million people for doing exactly what you did...vote for the person they thought best for the job.
And remember, I say this firmly straddling the fence still, since I didn't vote for either one, and I still honestly don't think either one of them are a good fit for my political beliefs. I just hate sweeping generalizations filled with misplaced hatred.
Well, that's a lot of new stuff on the site for one night! Enjoy, and have a wonderful weekend. TGIF!
